A roundhouse bridge is a special denture restoration that replaces a full arch of missing teeth. While other denture restorations are often bulky and uncomfortable in your mouth, these prosthetics feature a sleek, horseshoe-shaped design that follows the natural curve of your jaw. Using mini dental implants, we secure these restorations to your jawbone, providing a stable and effective smile that replaces all of your teeth!
Mini Implants 101
Mini dental implants are small titanium posts we use to anchor crowns, bridges, or dentures to your jawbone. Despite their small stature, these implants are incredibly durable and strong thanks to their titanium design!
Titanium is biocompatible, meaning it interacts well with living bone. Once inside your jaw, these titanium screws integrate with your bone to form a stable connection. Additionally, these implants feature a one-piece design, making their placement much simpler than that of their conventional counterparts.
Instead of using incisions and large drills, we simply create a small pilot hole in your jaw that acts as a guide for the implant. Once we screw the implant into your bone, it immediately begins the osseointegration process, securing the titanium to your jaw.
With mini implants, this connection is immediate, allowing us to secure a temporary restoration on your implants that very same day! Then, in just a few weeks, your implants will be secure enough to support a final roundhouse bridge.
Securing Your Roundhouse Bridge
Depending on your restoration, the number of implants necessary to restore your smile varies. However, thanks to their secure connection to your jaw, these implants create a stable foundation for your dentures. In fact, roundhouse bridges are so secure that they often require less of the bulky denture base common in traditional dentures!
For upper restorations, we’re able to remove the upper denture plate that stretches across the roof of your mouth. This structure can be very uncomfortable for patients, blocking key taste buds and potentially causing gagging as it nears the back of the throat. With an upper roundhouse bridge, your taste buds are free to fully enjoy all the foods and drinks you love!
Lower roundhouse bridge restorations stay secure on your implants, rather than using your jaw for support. Implant retention is a much more stable solution to tooth loss, as your lower jaw alone makes for a poor denture foundation. Without implants, dentures simply rest on your gums and lose their fit over time. Loose dentures slide around on your gums, irritating the tissue and causing difficulties with chewing and speaking clearly.
Fortunately, mini implants hold your restoration in place, minimizing the need for a lower denture base! In some cases, we may even be able to remove the base altogether, creating an incredibly natural-looking arch of teeth that’s secure directly on your implants.
Roundhouse Bridge Options in Springfield, MO
At the Mini Dental Implant Center of America in Springfield, MO, we offer two roundhouse bridges supported by mini implants.
- Semi-permanent roundhouse bridge: Secured by 6 to 10 mini dental implants, this restoration is incredibly stable in your mouth. We carefully space your implants out to evenly distribute the force of your bite, creating an effective and stable smile. Additionally, while we remove the prosthetic at routine dental visits, you never remove it. With a strong connection and a sleek, semi-permanent design, this restoration feels like your natural teeth.
Permanent roundhouse bridge: In contrast to the semi-permanent roundhouse bridge, a permanent roundhouse bridge requires 10 to 12 mini implants for support. While it may sound like a lot of implants, their small size and minimally invasive procedure make a full mouth of mini implants fairly comfortable in your jaw! With these titanium posts for support, we can often forgo the denture base. Instead, we secure an arch of teeth directly on your implants permanently. Additionally, this denture is never removed, providing you with a natural-looking and feeling smile that resembles your natural teeth!
